Welcome to Berlin!

Gruppenbild

Berlin, the capital of Germany, is a thriving city in the middle of Europe and highly popular with international visitors.

Airport Information

The opening of Berlin's newly built international airport, scheduled for the beginning of June 2012, has been recently postponed for several months. Visitors of WEIS will consequently arrive at one of the two original international airports in Berlin: Tegel Airport (TXL), located in the western part of Berlin, or Schönefeld Airport (SXF) in the south.

Conference Venue

The Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences BBAW is located in the heart of Berlin. Stadtmitte, which is the German word for city center and an underground railway station of the same name, is set between the famous Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag building, and Alexanderplatz. From the underground railway station U Stadtmitte, it is only a few minute walk to the conference venue:

Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences BBAW

Welcome Reception

The get-together will take place on one of the most beautiful and well-known public squares in Berlin, the Gendarmenmarkt, located in direct vicinity to the conference venue (zoom into map below). Look out for sun umbrellas and the open air bar "Shan Rahimkhan". Should the weather be contrary to our expectations, the reception will be moved to the inside of "Shan Rahimkhan" on the opposite side of the street (Markgrafenstrasse 36).

Hotel Information

The map below shows hotels near the venue. Hotels with special rates (code: WEIS 2012) are displayed in orange, other hotels are displayed in green.
